Part I
The Repression

Nunca Más (Never Again) - Report of Conadep  - 1984

El Motel (PAC)

Location:

On Highway No. 9, opposite 5th Arsenal 'Miguel de Azcuénaga', and a few kilometres from Tucumán, Tucumán province.

Description:

This secret detention centre operated in a motel under construction, Its main entrance was opposite the arsenal's guardroom. On the left, as one entered, there was a gravel path used by cars bringing in prisoners. In the area which must have been meant for reception, was the barracks' guardpost, with a half-finished building and swimming-pool behind. Separate from this building, there were two rows of small chalets. Prisoners were accommodated in the first two on the right. They had a gravel floor, with no doors or windows. The next three were meant for troops' dormitories; they had metal doors, a window and concrete floor.

In the row on the left, the first chalet was empty; the second was used by offlcers, the next functioned as a torture and interrogation room, and the last was the NCOs' dormitory. To the right of these buildings there was a water tank, used as a night guardpost.
